Comic recommendation of the day

iZombie by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred

If a Buffy fan were looking for a comic, this is where I'd point them. Gwen is a zombie. She hangs out with her friends. One is a ghost. One turns into a terrier when the moon is full.

Various other supernatural things pass through town, even some monster hunters, which is always disconcerting.

Can a love between a zombie and a monster hunter last?

It's a hip comic, as all comics with Allred art are. It's got style. It's good.

They made a TV show out of it, by the creator of Veronica Mars. The show kept very little about the comic, not even the main character's name. They actually have quite little in common. The show is like a procedural style, a weekly murder mystery. The show is also good, at least as good as procedural shows on network television get. But the comic is different, and way way better.

The series was sadly cut short when the writer left DC Comics in protest of its treatment of other creators. He has gone on to found his own company, MonkeyBrain Comics, which publishes digital comics and respects its creators.

The series lasted 28 issues. I have it collected in 4 softcovers. It's also available in one giant hardcover here.
